Bear Grylls Ultimate Survival

This guy is badass. Former SAS soldier (they are rumored to be even more hardcore than U.S. Navy Seals and Army Special Forces).

I really enjoyed watching his Discovery Channel show last night. He parachutes deep into the Rocky Mountains with only the clothes on his back (no tools, food nor water) and has 5 days to make it back to civilization.

These are some of the things they teach in S.E.R.E. but what I like is that he looks like he is having fun doing this. He enjoys the Adrenaline Rush and risk taking (which is common for a special ops soldier). I like his attitude and congenial nature.

Tickle.com

Here's what tickle.com says about my wife. This was her analysis when she took the tests.

"You're a nocturnal prowler and a fun-loving jokester with a definite social streak. There's never a dull moment when you're up for a party or a wild night on the town. After all, who can resist a free-spirited flirt with a great sense of humor? Your abundance of charm doesn't hurt your act either. You subtly move in on your prey, sneaking out of the shadows where you plot your next punch line. Before they even know what hit them, you've left them howling with laughter and disappeared off again into the night.

It's a wonder people never tire of your rabble-rousing antics, you tease. It must be something about your mysterious allure that keeps you so fiendishly intriguing. Or maybe it's your approach to living in the moment. Life's a party and you live it and that's what makes you so irresistible!"

Keep in mind, she has an IQ of 127 (high in the Arts) and an EQ of 132. This makes for a wild concoction.

IQ and other tests

Check out http://www.tickle.com for various tests. Be careful not to give your real email address.

On IQ, I got 133. It says I did better than 98.6% of the population.

On Brain Test, what your brain says about how you think and learn. I got:
"You are Right-brained"

"Most right-brained people like you are flexible in many realms of their lives. Whether picking up on the nuances of musical concerto, appreciating the subtle details in a work of art, or seeing the world from a different perspective, right-brained people are creative, imaginative, and attuned to their surroundings. "

This certainly explains why I have to shift my brain to left sided thinking in order to do my normal job as Senior Database Administrator/Senior Developer/Senior Data Architect.

"For the most part, you think more in terms of symbolism and abstraction instead of things that are more practical and straightforward. You are also likely to look at the whole of a situation instead of seeing it as a series of component parts. You probably tend to be more subjective than objective, allowing for context to color how you interpret a given situation. For you, there are likely very few definites in life, other than the fact that there is almost always more than one way to accomplish and think about things. "

On the right job test, I got:
"The right jobs for you would allow you to be Analytical and Creative." My job is 20% creative, and 80% analytical. Some weeks it is 100% analytical, and I usually get grumpy on those weeks. It explains a lot. It is the Architect part of my job that is creative.

That's weird because it says my ideal job is an Architect and the runner up job would be a Computer Systems Analyst. My current job is somewhat like this at 20/80 however
I think I would be most happy at 60/40. That is 60% creative, right brain work and 40% analytical left brain work.

"Research has shown that people whose personalities are well-suited to their job environments are happier and more successful. Remember, your Right Jobs were selected because they are good matches for your career personality — they would allow you to exercise the qualities mentioned above. They were not based on the skills you already have, or would need to perform those jobs. Those are things you can learn along the way."

This is a cool site.

My emotional IQ test score is 121. I did better than 92% of other test takers.

"Your Emotional IQ measures how well your emotions guide you towards smart decisions. In fact, increasingly, researchers are pointing to Emotional IQs as better indicators of overall success in life than traditional IQ tests alone. Healthy relationships and flourishing careers are impossible without interacting successfully with others. Even someone who possesses a genius Intellectual Quotient (IQ) can miss out on the wisdom that comes from understanding another human being. "

Post comments/links to your blogs and tell me how you did. :)

Diet and Mental Health

On Omega-3's
“Whatever amount of oily fish you consume, the impact on your risk of heart disease is negligible compared to the benefits of quitting smoking, doing regular exercise and eating a diet low in saturated fats.” -- MSNBC

“Your emotional state has a tremendous amount to do with sickness, health and well-being." -- Dana Reeve (Christopher Reeve's wife). This would explain my constant health problems while in this marriage. I was thinking of still staying in it for the benefit of a newborn child, but this marriage is seriously affecting my health. I feel like I am slowly dying inside.

SAT Scores Incorrect

Article. I had a hunch the SAT scoring was incorrect. I took it in high school and made a 770 out of 800 on Math. I thought the scoring was incorrect because I knew how to solve the problems on the test. I had always thought that was weird.

Movie Review: Ultraviolet

I was disappointed with the movie. The trailer make the movie look more interesting than what it is. If they only spent time making the movie as good as the trailer, movies would be great. I like Milla Jovovich. She did a really good job in Resident Evil 2. However the plot in Ultraviolet is almost non-existent. The scenery, background, and action sequences were put together with a lot of cheap CGI graphics. The acting is almost non-existent. The fighting is comic book like. No sense of reality. No nothing. Just like the modern Hong Kong movies. I got tired of it after 30 minutes, and walked out and talked to the manager and got my money back. The movie is a disappointment but I am still looking forward to seeing Milla Jovovich in Resident Evil 3.

Someone wrote this about the movie, "this movie was made on a fourth graders lunch money," and I would have to agree. It is a very low budgeted movie.
